Cinderella

Model: Genevieve Barrow

When thinking about what my gruesome interpretation of Cinderella was, I knew I wanted to focus on the glass slipper. I thought about an alternate story where Cinders trips down the step and her shoe shatters on her foot, impaling and injuring her.

To create the glass I melted down some Foxx's mint sweets in the oven and smashed them when they hardened. I then used liquid latex and tissue to do the SFX on the models foot, including attaching the 'glass' to the top of her foot. I used face paint on the ankle bruise (which looking back on I should have made less severe and used eyeshadow for) and a lot of fake blood on and around the wounds.

I wanted Cinderella to look like a young girl going to her first party, so I had her makeup done very poorly to reflect the skills of a young girl. This thought of her being very young creates more shock with the pain as we are seeing a young person getting severely injured.

I wanted the foot pictures to reflect the glass slipper in a twisted way, so I placed a large shard under the ball of the models foot to mirror the heel of the shoe. For expressions, I wanted the images to be incredibly emotive and powerful so I asked my model to scream to get authentic facial expressions that show Cinderella's agony and pain.

In these images I have done the composition, hair/makeup, costuming, prop making, set up and photography.
