Merida
(The Princess Series)

Model: Eloise Mair
In my art GCSE I did some experimentation with SFX makeup. The Princess Series was my first time using special effects makeup in photography so I learnt as I went through each character.
For Merida, I wanted to show the connection with bears and arrows. I used pipe-cleaner shavings mixed with PVA glue to create patches of fur and liquid latex to attach the arrow tails, I made, to her head.
I imagine a story where she also got cursed into becoming a bear and was hunted down by the people of her kingdom.
When getting my model to pose, I told her to have low eyes in some shots, and wide eyes in others, to get a feel of solemnness and then anger. I particularly like the shots where she is staring at the lens as it gives the viewer a sort of guilty feeling, as if they are the one who has done this to her.
In these images I have done the composition, hair/makeup, props, costuming, set up and photography.
