Haemophobia
(The Fear of Blood)

Gore

Model: Amira Davies

For my A-Level art, I spent some time looking at phobias. This image is supposed to encapsulate haemophobia, the fear of blood and gore, through expressions and design.

After interviewing people with this phobia as to what particularly triggers them and why, I used SFX makeup on my model to try to replicate these aspects. For example, one said that they are set off by deep flesh wounds, so I added the deep hole onto the cheek.

When thinking about expressions, I was told by one interviewee that they hate seeing the pain in people with these wounds. This is why many of my images have the model screaming or looking in pain. I also did some shots of her looking disgusted at herself or mutual, to show a more inhuman-like side as she is not a person, she is a fear.

In these images I have done the lighting, composition, hair/makeup, costuming, set up and photography.
